VOLKSWAGEN MEETINGS
Hebmüller meeting 2014
The 125th anniversary of Joseph Hebmüller´s famous coachbuilding company, founded in 1889, prompted the Neuss-based Hebmüller family to organise another gathering for Hebmüller-built vehicles. The first gathering in 2009 was a great succes, and this time they even opened the gates of the old factory in Wülfrath!
On 23rd and 24th August 2014, 29 Hebmüller owners from seven countries showed off their well-known Type 14A VWs at the wonderful Selders Garden Centre in Meerbusch. They were joined by a multitude of other Hebmüller creations, based on Buick, Tornax, Ford, Tempo, Opel, Borgward and Hanomag vehicles. Some Heb owners flew in from Canada, USA and Hong Kong, and the oldest participant was well into his 80s and motored over from Switzerland in his Heb! Saturday´s actions got going with a real "once in a lifetime" event. The current owner of the old Hebmüller factory in Wülfrath, Tedrive Steering Systems, opened the doors of the abandoned warehouse. So, after Saturday´s early morning cruise from Meerbusch to Wülfrath we gathered all cars in front of the old factory. After munching a light snack, all participants were given a plan of the old factory and allowed to wander round the old compound to gain an impression of how it all used to be. The group then gathered in former production halls 2 and 3 where Klaus Hebmüller explained how the whole production process worked before answering questions from all those present. We ended this visit with a re-enactment of the period promotional photo that was taken in the spring of 1950. In this antique photo they´d gathered all the cars that were then awaiting delivery to the Swiss VW importer AMAG, who´d ordered no less than 300 Type 14As! And now 64 years later, 21 Hebmüller cabrios parked up in our contemporary souvenir photo: same location in front of the same building. Don´t miss to watch the video of this awesome event on this website! Save the date for the next Hebmüller gathering: 17th & 18th August 2019!
